Notes, August

Four things from a month of not writing much: a misprint, a cheap notebook, a quiet chapter, and a letter that took nine days.

A short one, because August was mostly spent reading on trains.

  1. The paperback of Bleak House I was reading has “Chancery” misprinted as “Chancey” on page 40. I noticed it three times before I believed it.
  2. The best notebook I used all month cost 90p at a station kiosk. The paper takes fountain pen ink with no bleed at all, which I cannot explain.
  3. Chapter 14 of Bleak House is about nothing in particular, and it was my favorite.
  4. A reply to the June letter arrived by post, from Porto, nine days after it was sent. I am still working on an answer.
